From your description I suspect the motherboard failure. Maybe it’s one of those HP/Compaq laptops with well known NVIDIA graphics chip failure. First of all, try minimizing the laptop as much as you can. Remove the battery, hard drive, DVD drive, etc… Try turning on again and see if you can get the image. Do you think its likely to be a mobo short or a problem with the DC jack? The DC jack has no loose connections on the board as far as I can see. Hi does an ac adapter have to give a steady voltage for it to work correctly as I have an adapter that is reading an initial 19v but then drops back to 0 again without disconnecting anything.
